In this blog post, I have chosen to focus on the essential applications I’m using for Getting Things Done. My list tool is Todoist. Here I have all my to-do lists, projects and the complete set of GTD Horizons of Focus. For keeping track of all notes and other pieces of information, I use Evernote.
Todoist keyboard shortcuts that will improve productivity
Adding new tasks
- q: Add new task
- #: Project
- @: Label/context in GTD
- p1-p4: Set priority
- A: Add new task at the top of the list
- a: Add new task at the bottom of the list
- Enter: Save a newly created task and create a new one below it
- Ctrl + Enter: Save the newly created task
- Ctrl + Alt + Right arrow: Make subtask
- Ctrl + Alt + Left arrow: Make parent task
Edit tasks
I addition to the above keyboard shortcuts, these are useful when editing a task in Todoist
- Ctrl + Left click: Select multiple individual tasks
- Shift + Left click: Select a range of tasks
- Shift + Enter: Save changes to an existing task and create a new task below it
- Ctrl + Enter: Save changes to an existing task and create a new task above it
- Ctrl + Down arrow: Save changes to an existing task and edit the task below it
- Ctrl + Up arrow: Save changes to an existing task and edit the task above it
- Ctrl + B: Bold/highlight text
- Ctrl + U: Underline text
- Esc: Cancel edit
Sorting tasks in a project
These keyboard shortcuts only work inside an open project view.
- s: Sort by date
- p: Sort by priority
- r: Sort by assignee

- Home: Navigate to default page
- F5: Sync
- Alt + Enter: Save and go to comments
- m: Turn on the multi-select mode
- Ctrl + F: Search
- Alt + Shift + Right arrow: Make subtask
- Alt + Shift +Left arrow: Make parent task

- Ctrl + Shift + N: New notebook
Searching
- F6: Search in Evernote
- Ctrl + F: Search in current note
- Alt + Shift + T: Search in tags
Inserting
- Ctrl + Shift + T: Insert a checkbox
- Ctrl + Shift + U: Insert a bulleted list
- Ctrl + Shift + T: Insert today’s date
